FlipDrive is a straightforward and no nonsense cloud based file storage service. It has a neat, clean user interface and is entirely web based so there's no need to download any software. It might need to add a few more features to attract business users, but home users should find everything they need, particularly if storing photos online is an important requirement.
Signing up for an account at FlipDrive can be completed in just a few minutes and since there is a free account on offer there's no reason not to do it! One of the first things that will strike you is the simple, uncluttered layout of the website, and we are happy to report this continues as you start to use the service. The whole thing is web based and the user interface is very easy to use, but with these types of services it can often be useful to have a desktop application to handle the first big upload if you plan on backing up the majority of your hard drive.
Once you have some files uploaded it is very easy to share them with anyone by sending out a link to the file or files in question. You control how long the link is active for though and can stop it at any time. This is a great alternative to sending large email attachments to a few different people. Another great sharing feature is that any photos you upload can instantly be added to your public photo album. This is accessible from an easy to remember web address and lets anyone see the snaps you have uploaded.
FlipDrive offers a few different types of account, including the free one we have already mentioned, but the only major difference is the amount of storage space available. There are a few other things, such as the number of links you can send out at any one time though, so it's worth checking the small print. The most useful feature for anyone thinking about signing up for a business account is probably the multi-user collaborative folders it's possible to set up. These are great if you have team members in a variety of different locations.
On the whole FlipDrive is a well priced and well engineered online storage service. While it's great for storing a few files and sharing them with other people, we wouldn't recommend it as a fully fledged backup service due to the lack of backup features on offer. However, with a free account up for grabs it's well worth a look to make up your own mind.
