ElephantDrive provides a reliable and secure online storage space for home or business users to backup their important files and collaborate with family, friends and business partners. After a recent revamp, ElephantDrive.com now boasts some additional features and pricing plans. It seems to be working hard to satisfy the demands of its current customer base. For example, it says: "You spoke, we listened - and now we have a brand new web interface for browsing and managing files in your account." It seems to be a company on an upward trajectory, so it is certainly worth considering. As signing up for a free trial is a simple, 2-step process, you have nothing to lose by doing so.
The newly introduced Lite Account is completely free for an unlimited amount of time and offers 2 GB of free storage space on 1 device for 1 user. This free, easy to set-up account is therefore an ideal option for those with whom you wish to collaborate on ElephantDrive (by using the Everywhere Folder and Collaborative Folder Sharing features).
All three plans (Lite, Personal and Business) let you test drive the service for free, as well as offering all of the core features such as automated backups, Everywhere Folder synchronization and built-in file sending. To upload files you can use the web interface, which is best if you just have a few specific files to upload, or the downloadable desktop client. This runs on Windows or Mac and is the best way of taking advantage of ElephantDrive's services. You can schedule backups to run automatically whenever it suits you and after the first backup, only the changes to your files are uploaded to save bandwidth. It's also easy to map your ElephantDrive to a drive on your computer so that it appears just like a local hard drive. The new Everywhere Folder feature instantly synchronizes data across multiple devices registered under the same ElephantDrive account.
The Personal Account offers six different storage space levels, ranging from 100 GB (for $9.95/month) to 2 TB (for $169.95/month). The Business Account offers 20 different storage space levels, ranging from 50 GB (for $25/month) to 5 TB (for $1,840/month). ElephantDrive can also offer unlimited storage if necessary. While Personal Account holders are restricted to 1 user on up to 3 devices, Business Account holders can have multiple users on unlimited devices, as well as the added perks of Server OS Support and Open & Locked File Support. With Business Account holders in mind, ElephantDrive have expanded their customer support team to provide a faster turnaround time and more comprehensive tech support. The Support/FAQ section on the ElephantDrive.com website is very comprehensive, so you should check it out if you are unclear about any aspect of the ElephantDrive service. Chances are, you will find the answer to your question there.
The only drawback is the pricing. A quick browse through our top ten list will show up a number of companies offering a similar level of service for lower prices. However, if you are a Business user, custom plans can be tailored to your requirements and it may be more cost effective than opting for an off-the-shelf plan somewhere else. So although ElephantDrive may not be the best or cheapest online backup service around, it does offer a good service. Security and reliability are high on ElephantDrive's agenda which is exactly as you would want from a good backup provider. So why not sign up for a free 15-day trial to see if it suits your specific requirements.
