Editor's Review:
SafeSync is a cloud file sharing and backup service from well known internet security company Trend Micro. With over 20 years of experience developing high quality security and backup products you would expect a top quality service, and Trend Micro doesn't disappoint. While its prices might be slightly higher than competing products, the level of service is excellent and will be well worth the money for many people.
SafeSync has recently taken over Humyo so if you ever had an old Humyo account lying around now could be the time to upgrade to a new version. Unfortunately SafeSync doesn't offer a free account as Humyo did, but if you already had one you will be allowed to keep it for the time being. However, the crossover appears to have been relatively painless and it's very easy to sign up for a new SafeSync account. There are only three options to choose from for home users depending on how much storage space is required. Business plans are also available which offer a few extra features to help manage multiple users and collaborative folders.
A SafeSync home account boasts plenty of features itself though and does everything a good backup and sharing service should. You can install the desktop software on your PC or Mac to do your first big backup and from then on changes to your files will be kept in sync with the cloud in real time as long as the software is running. When your files are uploaded they are available 24/7 from any web enabled device without having to install any software and if your hard drive blows up it's easy to restore everything back to how it was.
SafeSync also provides dedicated apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. These all work brilliantly, especially if you are storing lots of music, photos or videos in the cloud. Photos appear in an easy to navigate album-style browser and music and video can be streamed directly to your device without having to wait for the whole file to download. Only a small set of online storage companies offer this service at the moment, but it's very likely to be the next big thing for mobile devices.
SafeSync offers a great service even if it's prices aren't the cheapest around. There are plenty of features that home users will appreciate and enough to keep a medium sized business pretty happy too. A free 30 day trial is available to all new users and we would highly recommend giving it a try.
Please note that Safe Sync has now been discontinued.
