MyOtherDrive is a fairly respectable online storage and backup service. It caters for home and business users and offers a good number of features to both. The best part in our opinion is the free 2Gb account on offer which gives you access to most of the functionality of the service.
MyOtherDrive offers a decent feature set which doesn't change much across the different plans it offers. The usual things are here such as file sharing with non-MyOtherDrive users, automated backups and access through a web browser. There are also a couple of useful extras like the ability to automatically create online photo albums or to grab content from the web and save it straight to your account.
MyOtherDrive offers a desktop client for Windows, Mac or Linux which allows you to set automatic backups and transfer files easily to your online space. It isn't the best client we have seen but gets extra marks for being compatible with all the main operating systems. Also available is a web client, which again isn't the best looking one we have seen, but is easy to use and works well.
Security on my other drive is pretty standard. All transfers are handled using 128-bit SSL encryption and you can choose to encrypt your files while they are being stored on the server. There doesn't seem to be a way to automatically store them in encrypted format though. We also couldn't find details of the actual methods used to encrypt the files during storage.
The best thing about MyOtherDrive is the free account, which gives you 2Gb of storage in total and 10Gb of bandwidth per month. Paid for plans are available and only differ in the amount of storage space you get. The prices for these are actually pretty good, with the cheapest coming in at $9.99 for 500Gb, and all offer unlimited bandwidth use. Consider that you can pay the same price for 1Gb of storage with some services and you can see you are getting a pretty good deal.
MyOtherDrive is a pretty good service all in all. It doesn't offer all the features some of the bigger companies offer, but is simple enough to use and gives lots of storage space to the dollar. Businesses might want to look for a more comprehensive service, but home users should find everything they need in the free account alone.
