FlipDrive is a well featured online storage provider with integrated organisational tools. It provides pretty good service and value for money, but does lack the customer support options some users may require. However, it still offers a lot of useful functionality and is very easy to use for novice users.
FlipDrive is really aimed at home users or perhaps freelance professionals who need to share files on a regular basis. The service provides some useful features for sharing multimedia files, and photos in particular, through the online interface. Photo albums can be created just by dropping image files into the correct folder and then the link can be shared with your friends and family. Other files can also be shared with non FlipDrive users simply by copying and pasting a link to the file into an email.
FlipDrive does not offer a downloadable client so you can't use this service to automatically backup files on your computer. However, the easy to use web interface will be enough for most users to make use of their account. This also comes with some useful features like a calendar you can access from any browser or a way of storing links to your favourite sites online. These are the types of things you can find for free elsewhere, but it does make it more convenient to have them all in one place.
The security on FlipDrive is passable. 128-bit SSL encryption is used on all uploads, but there is no encryption on your files while they are stored on the FlipDrive servers. This is fine for most home users needs but if you have any private or important files you may be better off storing them elsewhere.
FlipDrive offers three different plans which only vary in the amount of storage space they offer. The premium account at $4.95 per month for 20Gb is probably the one most people will go for and offers more than enough space for most purposes. Paying annually on any plan saves you two months subscription fees so is the best way to go if you have tried the service for a while and know it's the one for you.
FlipDrive is a decent enough service for anyone who needs to share large files over the internet or wants enough space to backup their important files - albeit manually. You can get a 30 day free trial on a premium account just now so it's definitely worth giving the service a try.
