DropBoks is an extremely simple, no-nonsense online storage service which is offered for free. Despite being suspiciously similarly named to another very similar service, Dropboks is a legitimate service and actually works quite well.
As far as online storage goes you don't get much simpler than Dropboks. The company's mission statement is to keep the service as simple as possible and not bother their users with features they will never use. Some people won't like this minimalist approach, but for others it will be a refreshing change from the usual add sponsored sites and flashy graphics. However, don't expect much else than literally a box to drop your files in and then pick them up elsewhere.
Dropboks can only be accessed through a web browser and doesn't offer any desktop based upload clients. The interface is very minimalist and appears as just a small box in the centre of your browser window. There are essentially only 3 options: create a folder, upload a file or delete a file. Once files are uploaded they appear in the box and you can download them at the click of a button. Signing up for an account is again about as simple as it gets and you don't even have to verify your email address.
Despite being such a simple service Dropboks does offer some security features. Obviously your account is password protected, but also all uploads are handled using SSL encryption - just like all the bigger services use. There is no encryption on stored files, but you probably wouldn't be uploading your sensitive documents here anyway.
Dropboks offers 1Gb of storage for free with a 50Mb file size limit. You can upgrade this to 2Gb and a 200Mb file size limit for just $2 per month. The service is still quite new and soon different subscription plans will be on offer for more space at a slightly higher cost.
If you are looking for a very easy to use and simple service with no added extras then Dropboks is probably right up your street. There are no complicated features to get in your way and the whole thing runs very quickly making it easy to get at your files. However, if you want to be able to share your files or do basically anything else with them you are better off looking elsewhere. Check back soon though as there are a lot of new features planned for Dropboks in the near future.
