Data Deposit Box is a well rounded online storage and backup solution. It provides a lot of useful features and a good level of service for home or business users. The pricing plan is very simple with no hidden costs and provides good value for money if you don't need very much space.

Data Deposit Box aims itself mainly at home users or traveling professionals. The service is easy enough to use and provides enough features to satisfy both of these groups, but perhaps does not offer quite enough to meet some businesses requirements. However, for the price you are paying there is a lot of functionality per dollar.

To access the service you can use the web interface or the free desktop client. The desktop client is only compatible with Windows so far and there is no mention of whether or not a Mac version will become available. This desktop client is robust and user-friendly, making it easy to upload individual files to your storage space. It also enables automatic backup of specified files and folders. One feature we particularly liked was that it will backup open files if you leave your computer idle for a while - not many of the services we have reviewed offer this functionality.

The web client provides everything you need to access your files anywhere in a secure and easy manner. There is also a well organized support section which should help sort out any problems you may have, providing telephone support 9-5pm Monday to Friday and also 24/7 email support.

Data Deposit Box handles security pretty well. All files are encrypted using the Blowfish 64-bit encryption cipher before being stored on the data servers. The data center is also guarded around the clock by professional security guards.

Data Deposit Box also offer file and folder sharing, allowing you to share any number of files and/or folders with colleagues and friends via their web portal. Friends and colleagues can only view the files and folders you choose to share with them, keeping the rest of your data private. Once shared, you can email the secure web based file-sharing links to others. By doing this you can easily share large file attachments with people who have very limited inbox space.

If you are only looking for a small amount of storage then Data Deposit Box offers good value for money at only $2 per gigabyte per month and use on an unlimited number of PCs. However this is the only plan on offer, so if you want more space the price quickly ramps up. Given that you can get unlimited space for about $10 elsewhere it might be wise to shop around.

For users wishing to store relatively small amounts of data, Data Deposit Box will provide a very good solution at a very affordable price.
