Connected Backup from Iron Mountain is an enterprise level online storage and backup solution. Subscriptions are expensive but come with all the features businesses need to keep their data secure and a very professional level of service. Home backup plans are also available but may be more than most users will need.
The service offered by Iron Mountain is really geared towards helping small to medium businesses backup their important data online. Their pitch is aimed at convincing businesses that the service is a perfect way of extending their IT infrastructure without spending money on new hardware. If this is the type of thing you are looking for then Iron Mountain will do a great job for you. The software they provide includes many features to help backup whole networks of computers that we haven't seen in other backup services. Furthermore, the service and support provided is top notch and will definitely satisfy your business needs.
The home service offered is equally good, but might be overkill for what the average person will require. All the usual features are there such as a desktop client with automatic backup feature and a web interface to access your files from wherever you are. The software is particularly clever and will realize when it comes to a duplicate file on your computer so as not to upload it and waste bandwidth.
Security is again of the highest level with Connected Backup. Transfers are all handled using 128-bit SSL encryption and files are encrypted using AES (an industry standard encryption algorithm) before being stored on the servers. The data center is also highly secure and uses proven techniques to make your data available 24x7.
Connected Backup is quite expensive, with the cheapest home plan only providing 2Gb of storage for $8.95 per month. The business plans get even more expensive, but do offer more space. However, you are paying for a high quality service and all the support that comes with it so the cost may be justified for some businesses.
Connected backup by Iron Mountain is a professional level service aimed at businesses. Home users will still find it an excellent service to use, but may be better off looking for something cheaper as they probably won't need all the features on offer here. Businesses looking for a well proven and supported solution for extending their backup capabilities would do well to consider Connected Backup.
